Devices: Foldable Phones (Samsung, Huawei) and 5G (IBM, Ericsson, everyone)
Roar Rating: 5.0 roars. Yes, 5.
Scale: Fire-->5 roars-->4 roars-->3 roars-->2 roars-->1 roar-->1 purr-->2 purrs-->3 purrs-->4 purrs-->5 purrs
(Fire is so awful you should run away gibbering. 5 roars is as bad as it gets, don't even bother with the product or service. 5 purrs is so good you should drop what you're doing and run and get whatever I'm talking about.)
First of all, hello 2019! My last post was some mumble mrrrph mumble awhile back. Ah, the cute safe days of returning smart phones because the camera was slow! We are so so past that now.
I will start with today's contemplation on the article below, introduction of Samsung's shiny new foldable phone. Very cool, right? Keep reading.
Next up will be a series of posts on all the ways your privacy is being invaded by technology and hell yes, its gone far further than anyone expects. I interview people nearly daily, regular people much like you, and whenever I tell them the extent of personal data collection that is going on, on them, 24 hours a day, every day of the week, they are stunned. So prepare yourself!
Todays rumination is about the new foldable smartphones, as if smartphones haven't been enough to begin the slow slide of tearing our society apart with its constant delivery of information, work emails, entertainment, tweeting, apps -- and silently, stealthily, everyones loss of attention to the real world. I think its still out there, the real world, but I'm not sure.
Anyhow, once again, this new technology got here far faster than even I predicted. By this I mean not only the deployment of 5G, which has been a big push from IBM and Ericsson for years (for all you geeks, see references below), but also the hidden cameras and the ever-kewl phone-tablet transmogrification.

As you may know, 5G technology, long technologically elusive and now ready to deploy, has far, far greater power then 4G or any previous technology to collect continuous, multiple threads of data on you. That's YOU, baby. Stop squirming and listen up.
The new phones are priced outrageously and the reviews keep stating over and over, it's not about the price. Its pricey but that's not important. You'll want this. You'll need this. It's a tablet so the price is justified.
This is all most consumers need to hear to justify putting this purchase on their credit card and the advertisers all know it.
As if 5G isn't enough in terms of multi-dimensional secret spying on you, this damn thing has 5 Five FIVE 5 five cameras. 4 of then are hidden behind the screen when the device is in tablet mode. Whoa! So that technology is being quietly deployed too. Hidden cameras, dig it. And not all are being disclosed to the buyer (already true on cars after 2014 and smart-televisions after 2015...and now that technology is far better, too). Why do you need 5 cameras? Oh right, you don't. The corporations do, to justify their government grants and roll out their promised deliverables. Which are - to watch you.
Again and again, we're the data and we're the product.
